Chocolate Amaretto Cupcakes

These Chocolate Amaretto Cupcakes are perfect for any occasion. You can find the easy to follow recipe below.

To make the cakes:

  • 100g butter
  • 100g caster sugar
  • 1 tbsp amaretto or almond essence
  • 2 large eggs
  • 90g plain flour
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 tsp baking powder

To make the chocolate amaretto buttercream:

  • 150g butter
  • 290g icing sugar
  • 3 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 tbsp amaretto 


  • Pre-heat the oven to 180c and line a cupcake tray with 9 cupcake cases.
  • Cream the butter, amaretto and sugar together until smooth.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time until combined fully.
  • Sieve in the flour, cocoa and baking powder and combine.
  • Divide between 9 cupcake cases. 
  • Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until firm to touch.
  • Move to a wire cooling rack to cool.

To make the buttercream:

  • Beat the butter with the amaretto until soft and creamy.
  • Sieve and beat in the cocoa and icing sugar, 1/4 at a time.
  • Once fully combined, pipe onto cooled cupcakes in your desired way.
